How Long Now 04:13
How long has it been now baby? How long has it been now girl? Since we saw eye to eye Smiled through and through Oh, can you tell me how long? And I’ve been down in Louisiana Spent time in old Tennessee Seen a lot of pretty women, and nice ones too But my mind keeps wandering back to you Spend my nights drinking Seems like the best thing to do Sit back counting the bottles babe And I wonder, are you just drinking too? Too much time for thinking And not enough to say The rooster ain’t callen’ And the dogs are asleep And the songbirds have all flown away I wonder what kind of company you’re keeping I hope he knows how to make you smile I hope he looks you in the eye And tells you true Then again I hope he falls down and dies I must be god damn lonely To be thinking about you again Nearly drove me crazy, up and down the wall But I can’t remember how you did So how long has it been now baby? How long has it been now girl? Since we saw eye to eye Smiled through and through Oh, can you tell me how long?

Going down to the garden To get some peace of mind Miles away from troubles today Going to the garden if you don’t mind And my old lady, my old baby’s Calling me all the time Wants me back, I ain’t going back Going to the garden if you don’t mind There’s old fruit trees, birds and bees Grapes growing on the vine Shaded paths and green, green grass Don’t ya know I’m feeling fine Quit your whining, quit your fussing Quit staying out late at night Sit up straight, clean your plate I’m going to the garden if you don’t mind Yes I’m going down to the garden Gon’ get me some peace of mind Miles away from troubles today Going to the garden if you don’t mind

I’ve got dues to pay, I’ve got debts, I’ve got bills to pay Not a lot of time in the day, not enough to say I love you babe And I’m worried as can be Don’t know what you want from me But I can’t give it you Can’t get it from me And I’m listenin’ for the whistle I’m hoping to hear And my troubles are all over and I can get away from here Oh I’m worried as can be Don’t know what you want from me But I can’t give it to you Can’t get it from me And your so good and I know I ought to do ya better But that look in your eyes is looking a lot like forever And I’m worried as can be Don’t know what you want from me But i can’t give it to you Can’t get it from me

And I’m drawn to you now like a moth to the flame Dear, I left you for her without much to say I saw you standin’ there, jet black hair Your smile glowing bright My heart strayed back to those warm summer nights And I was so lonely when I fell in your lap Dear you kissed my chest, slid your fingers down my back And in the mist and moon, dancing too, the easy loving kind Hand in hand by a river I lost track of time And my lonely heart forgets Why didn’t it go right Why didn’t it go right And what I got left Is regret Now you’re over there and I’m over here Quite confused just sippen’ on my beer And then I met your eyes, loven’ eyes Rolling around my head When the lights came on I found my shoes and left But there’s no point in lying No use in forgettin’ The night so like this one And I’m tryna find it’s ending I saw her sittin’ there, golden hair, laughter in her eyes So I held her and loved her till the sun lit up the sky But my lonely heart forgets Why didn’t it go right Why didn’t it go right And what I got left Is regret

We live together, me and my lady Pass the time in company Watch the TV and smoke Sometimes we go out to eat I slang pizza, she makes cold calls Get to eat and talk for free Stay up late almost every night Just can’t seem to sleep And it’s snowing baby already A pretty Blanket of white So let’s beat back the lonesome ’Till we can get it right I don’t really talk all that much She never cleans at all I’m always trippen’ over something When I walk down the hall 3 AM in the kitchen She’s sitting up on the counter She holds her head on an angle We’re laughing Sometimes I go out and look for what’s missing I haven’t found it yet Come home in the evening To her nice warm bed And it’s snowing baby already A pretty blanket of white So let’s beat back the lonesome ‘Till we can get it right

Kept a picture of you I didn’t mean to But I still have it after all of this time It’s in my pocket at the bottom of my wallet Every day You never left mind Too long a time And some days when I’m lonely You still fill my heart And I carried you around each and every town I have wandered through Since I left home And maybe if we meet again baby The stars will align And you could be mine again I ain’t that much of a man Ain’t got no master plan Oh I worry I may (wonder/wander) my whole life away But maybe If we meet again baby The stars will align And you could be mine again I kept picture of you I didn’t mean to But I still have it after all of this time It’s in my pocket at the bottom of my wallet Everyday

Here we are again It’s going wrong again I getting restless Why can’t we let it be And I don’t know why I make you cry When I try to leave You make me stay Oh and why are we so afraid Can’t be so afraid That we can’t make a change Can’t keep living this way Waiting for an easy time When I can hide this face of mine away Oh but I can’t wait no more Oh let me out And drive away You said you love me I said I don’t love you And nothing changed Can’t laugh it off Don’t take your shirt off This love is cold And it’s no funny at all Waiting for an easy time When I could hide this face of mine away Oh but I can’t wait no more Oh let me out And drive away Yea and this is farewell I wish you happiness and health I won’t forget the good times The way you laugh and smile And here I am again It’s going wrong again I’m getting restless Why can’t we let it be

about

Doxology is both the first and last complete album by Colin Scott Ruloff, a young man who wrote country folk songs that sprung from the great tradition possessing his deep humility and soft spoken wit. Colin tragically passed away in April 2018, less than a week after recording the vocal and guitar tracks for the album he intended to release. His pals gathered together to complete what Colin started –– a record of 10 original songs. Posthumously, instrumentation was layered onto the sounds Colin left behind and album art was put together. Now finished, Doxology isn’t meant to represent a tragic loss or a pedestal that we place a legacy on. Rather, the hope is that the album will be shared and listened to as it was originally meant to be –– with an appreciation for the songwriting and the man behind it.
